The Aiwa HS-T19 is an entry-level stereo radio-cassette Walkman introduced by Japanese brand AIWA in the 1990s. Aimed at the student market, it grew into a classic mass-market model of its time with its budget price and practical combo of cassette playback and radio functionality. An updated variant, the HS-T19 MARK II, was launched later.
Core Features & Specifications
- Dual-function design It works as both a stereo cassette player and a built-in AM/FM dual-band radio. A transparent frequency dial window sits on the top panel for intuitive tuning display, while side sliders are used to switch between cassette/radio modes and FM/AM bands.
- Super Bass system Marked with a gold “SUPER BASS” logo on the front face, this function notably boosts low-frequency response when activated. When paired with the original Aiwa stock earphones, it delivers immersive bass performance, which stands as the model’s key selling point.
- Basic playback controls The unit supports play, fast forward, fast rewind and stop operations, and features an auto-stop mechanism: the deck automatically stops running once the tape reaches its end, protecting the mechanism from damage caused by prolonged idling.
- Power & battery life It runs on 2 AA batteries. As an entry-level model, it offers around 3–4 hours of playback with alkaline batteries, and a power indicator LED is fitted on the side of the body.
- In-box accessories The unit comes factory-equipped with the Aiwa V14 silver-stripe earphones, a classic stock earpiece for entry-level portable cassette players of that era.
